The number of possible sequences for the answers is 2 [superscript 5] = 32.

The number of sequences which have 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 answers correct is 1, 5, 10, 10, 5 and 1, respectively.

We know that since the six candidates were equally best and seven scored lower, the six must have had three correct answers. This can happen only with the correct answers given above.
